Summer Literacy Program

page-turners-2-madison-2010The importance of summer reading has been demonstrated repeatedly in numerous studies. Children who read during the summer do much better when returning to class in the Fall. Research shows that having children read just 4-5 books during the summer can decrease academic loss. Additionally, by having access to a library near their home removes any/all barriers to transportation.

This program is provided at select elementary schools throughout the District in partnership with Kids On Course University. The program provides students the opportunity to participate in summer reading, computer classes, and enrichment activities each week.

PEARSON partners with the Foundation to sponsor the Summer Literacy Program. As a member of the educational community, PEARSON recognizes the value of early childhood education and supports all kind of learning delivered in a personal style, explained a company representative.

It is PEARSON’s belief that “wherever learning flourishes, so do people.”
