Sabrina H. Jackson Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship in memory of Sabrina Jackson, a 2020 graduate of KHS, whose life ended tragically in June 2021. Student awardee should display the personal characteristics of Sabrina – kind, patient, empathetic, studious. Ideally, student will have an interest in Asian studies, music education and/ or political activism.

Schroeder Family Music Scholarship

In honor of WHS alums Pam & Kate Schroeder, to reward an outstanding 4-year music student (instrumental or vocal) who plans to pursue music in college.

Scott Ewoldsen Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship

Scholarship in memory of Kennedy Class of 1985 student, Scott Ewoldsen, for a Kennedy student active in drama, music, journalism and/ or art. Must have been involved in the activity for at least two years and planning to attend college.

Sean Wu Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Sean Wu, a 2016 graduate of Kennedy High School, for a student who plans to pursue higher education in a creative career field. Student must embody Sean’s spirit, original humor, interest in creative writing and cinematic arts, academic excellence, and the ability to brighten everyone’s mood.

Senquez Jackson Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship in memory of WHS student Senquez Jackson, for an award given to a 4-year iJAG student.

Shawn Dennis Shaw Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarships will be given annually – one to a male and one to a female Washington High School graduate. Students should ideally be the first in their family to seek post-secondary education, have financial need, be personally motivated, a leader within the school and/or with their peers, and have participated in school and/or community service work.

Steve Strong Computer Scholarship

In honor of retired Washington High School Computer Science teacher, Steve Strong. To support a WHS graduate pursuing an education/career in computer science.

Steven Arnold Memorial Theatre Scholarship

In memory of Steven Arnold, a 1970 alumnus, who was a director and actor at Theatre Cedar Rapids and long term board member of Act One Theater in Benton County.  For a student who has been active in JHS theatre all 4-years and will attend UNI to major in any of the theatre arts. Student must have significant financial need.

Steven W. Hilby Memorial Scholarship

A former Roosevelt student with 2.0 grade point or above who is also an athlete; not necessarily varsity but has dedication, a love of the game, a positive attitude, and is a great teammate. Student must plan to attend a technical school, 2-year, or 4-year institution. Financial need a plus, but not required.

Susan Hovelson Shimon Memorial Scholarship

To be given to a deserving graduating senior from Washington High School, whose high school education program included an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), as a reward for the student who, despite a disability, has been admitted to a 2- or 4-year accredited college or university.

Terry Durham-CR Noon Lions Club Scholarship

Senior actively involved in community service throughout their high school years who will be continuing in any kind of post-secondary education.

Terry Kemme Scholarship

An award for a Metro IEP student who will pursue further education in a trade program, vocational institution, or college. Recipient to be determined by staff.
